Can Harborough’s Bakers Rise to the Occasion?


Are you baking obsessed? Think you’ve got enough cake-baking skills to challenge the great Mary Berry herself? Then Harborough Market has the ultimate foodie challenge for you.
Harborough Market Operators, Market Place, are delighted to be hosting ‘The Great Market Harborough Bake Off’ at the town’s award winning indoor market.

Home bakers in two categories, 12 to 16 and 17 and over, are invited to send in a picture of their family-sized cake, the recipe, and their contact details.


The finalists will be invited to bring in their cakes to a live round of judging at Harborough Market on July 25thwith MasterChef finalist Tony Rodd, Harborough District Council vice chairman Councillor Lesley Bowles and Barry Badger from HFM on the judging panel.

“It’s free to enter the competition,” said Market Place and Harborough Market Manager Sairah Butt. “We would love to see all the town’s home bakers take part and hopefully we can encourage people who might not do a lot of baking to have a go!”
 
The 12-16 age group winner will receive a £100 voucher and the 17 and over age group winner will receive a £200 voucher to be spent at Frank Gilbert Housewares.


 
There will be a live HFM broadcast on the day and interviews with the judges, contestants, and stall holders.

Pitch for a Free Market Stall at Harborough Market

Harborough District Council is offering new food businesses the chance to test their business ideas for free at their award winning Harborough Indoor Market. Harborough Market, which is operated by Market Place, is participating in the high profile, Love Your Local Market Campaign led by the National Association of British Market Authorities. They are offering a 6-week rent free period in a bid to attract new traders to the hall and to promote the market as the ideal location for start-up businesses.
