AWARD WINNING CONTINENTAL MARKET COMES TO WIGAN TOWN CENTRE



Standishgate in Wigan Town Centre will come alive with a real taste of the Continent. From Thursday 16th March until Sunday 19th March traders from around Europe and some from a little further afield will descend on Wigan.

Over 30 traders will be bringing a real flavour of Europe and beyond with wonderful foods and a great range of crafts and gifts from around the Globe.

Just some of the tasty flavours which will be drawing in visitors to the International event include Catalan tapas, Greek gyros, a Traditional German Schwenkgrill selling Bratwurst and Currywurst Sausage, French crepes, a Thai noodle bar and even Ostrich and Kanagroo burgers so Hop It.

And whilst you meander around the stalls sampling some of the great Fresh Food products you can relax and browse some of the great Craft and Gift stalls including South American Jewellery and Knitwear, Italian Silk Scarves, Handmade Amber, crystal and gemstone jewellery. 


Councillor David Molyneux, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The continental markets in Wigan are always popular and we hope residents from across the borough come along to sample the great food and products that are on offer.

“The markets are a wonderful temporary addition to the town and compliments the fantastic range of shops and markets that we have in Wigan.”

Our friendly traders look forward to welcoming visitors who are certain to experience a fun family day out with a difference.

We’re holding a Time for a Cuppa tea party so we can raise awareness and funds for Dementia UK and much needed Admiral Nurses. This is the only UK charity offering specialist one-to-one support and advice to people living with dementia and their families. Admiral Nurses are specialists providing practical, clinical and emotional support directly to families living with dementia, so they don’t have to face it alone.

For your chance to win a Time for a Cuppa hamper we will be selling raffle tickets at £1 per strip and you can purchase tickets from the market, all monies raised will be donated to this fantastic charity. We will be announcing the winner live on stage in Wigan Town Centre at 12:15pm after the half marathon.

From Wednesday 6 th - Sunday 10 th July, Market Place will be bringing a huge selection of traders from across the globe to Sheffield for a fantastic 6-day Global Village Market. Shoppers will be spoilt for choice with a great variety of tasty treats and unique crafts and gifts from all over the world! Along Fargate will be the Greek Grill House who along with business owner, Dimitrios will be offering the famous and extremely traditional flavours of Greece. After owning a busy restaurant in Zante, Dimitrios believes his tasty Greek foods are so popular because they take you back to your holiday as all ingredients from the Pitta Bread and flour used to the cooking methods are all traditional and authentic. Bringing the very best flavours, crafts and goodies, there is bound to be something for everyone at this family friendly event. Hungry shoppers will have plenty of culinary delicacies to choose from including authentic French cheeses, Spanish paella cooked to a traditional family recipe, Italian pizza cooked in a wood fire oven at the market, delicious Greek gyros, succulent hog roast and even Thai noodles!
