The Icing on the Cake for Harborough Market Traders

Harborough Market traders, Sarah Watson and Lydia Lowe of Sarah Ruth Cupcakes, will soon see their fantastic cakes take centre stage in the new Marie Curie TV advert, to be aired in June.

Marie Curie is asking its supporters to hold fundraising ‘Blooming Great Tea Parties’ on the 23rd to 25th June.

The advert to promote this national event will feature a host of Sarah’s delicious cupcakes. Sarah trades at Harborough Market every Saturday and has seen her business go from strength to strength, but nothing prepared her for a TV producer to walk through the market and contact her regarding her cakes!

It’s so exciting,” said Sarah. “To go from a home business, to a market stall, to starring in a national TV campaign is unbelievable! I’ve always wanted to be a market trader and for me Market Harborough is the best place to do that. The town is just nice, the customer and market staff are great and with people ordering cakes from the stall it has been profitable for me to be here!

Market Place and Harborough Market Manager Sairah Butt is delighted for the talented duo.

It couldn’t have happened to nicer traders. They have a great work ethic, delicious cakes, and a lovely stall. I would urge anyone to pop along to the market on a Saturday and try the cakes for themselves, especially the lemon drizzle cupcakes! You won’t be disappointed.”

Sarah Ruth Cupcakes trade at Harborough Indoor Market every Saturday and can be contacted on 07535 653 479 for any bespoke orders.

Please contact Sairah Butt is you are interested in trading at Harborough Market sairah@mpel.co.uk

Harborough Market, which is operated by Market Place, is participating in the high profile, Love Your Local Market Campaign led by the National Association of British Market Authorities. They are offering a 6-week rent free period in a bid to attract new traders to the hall and to promote the market as the ideal location for start-up businesses. Sairah Butt, Market Place and Harborough Market Manager said, “Many well-known brands started life on a market stall. Getting started in business is not easy, especially in today’s economic climate, but markets can be a great way to launch a business with relatively low risk, whether it be in a fixed unit or a one day pop up stall.” Budding food business owners who want to bring a new product to the market are invited to send in a written pitch of no less than 500 words, detailing why they...
