Earlier this month Harborough Market joined the crème de la crème of Leicester’s business community at a lavish ceremony, where their exceptional accomplishments in turning the market into a thriving community location being acknowledge.
Market Place was thrilled to collect their third award in less than a year, winning ‘Retail Business of the Year’ for their work with Harborough Market. Since its re-opening in 2014 under the management of Market Place, Harborough Market Hall has fast secured its place in the heart of the community, representing hundreds of local independent businesses each week.
Leicester’s most successful and dynamic companies attended the Leicester Mercury Business Awards at the Platinum Suite on Cobden Street. Shining a light on those who contribute to making the area’s economy fruitful, the Awards are a highly anticipated annual event, and this year did not fail to impress.
A lavish three-course meal preceded the accolades, which were hosted by Olympic Badminton player Gail Emms MBE and celebrated comic Dominic Holland.
Nick Rhodes, CEO of Market Place, the company who manage Harborough Market said:
‘We had some stiff competition so you can imagine how delighted we are to receive this award. To be recognised out of 350 entrants as being the best is a great honour. The traders at Harborough Market and their diverse offer are the special ingredients that make the Market so distinct. We have spent a lot of time and effort in making sure the formula to create a successful daily market was right. Partnership working with the local authority has made a significant and positive impact on the market offering for the town of Market Harborough.’
Beverley Jolly, Corporate Director for Resources, at Harborough District Council, said:
“This latest award acknowledges the continued the success of the market since its redevelopment a few years ago. Credit goes to all those involved in the market, its traders and the many people who regularly do their shopping there.”
The awards ceremony highlighted the enormous role business plays in the community, encouraging further progress in the sector and cementing a stable legacy for future generations.
Sponsors for this year’s Leicester Mercury Business Awards, included EHL Commercial Law Ric Pancholi, Head of EHL Commercial Law said:
‘The entrants for the ‘Retail Business of the Year Award’ were all of an extremely high calibre and we looked at measurable results, an ability to build on their reputation for retail excellence and the contribution each entrant made to the economic stability of the county.
‘We took the time out to ‘mystery shop’ each entrant over three weeks and the decision was tough because there were many strong candidates. Harborough Market demonstrated a real community collective between the traders, the ability to generate employment and being a focal point for the local community.
Harborough Market, situated in Northampton Road, Market Harborough, is open from 8am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday. The antiques, retro and collectables market takes place on Wednesdays. The craft market takes place on Thursdays. The antiques market takes place on Sundays from 9am to 3pm.
