Market Place offer innovative Educational Tours at Award winning Christmas Markets

November sees the return of the award winning Christmas Markets to the grounds of the Belfast City Hall, Exeter Cathedral Green, St Enoch Square in Glasgow and Grey and Grainger Street in Newcastle, and we want to share this experience with you.

We are again offering FREE tours to primary schools for the period of the market. The tours include a guided walk around the market, educating and entertaining participants as they learn more about language, food and culture of the traders and the countries or regions they represent. We advise participants not to have anything to eat before coming on a tour as there are many wonderful foods to sample.

Our educational tours are also supported by the Education Passport, a document full of fun facts, worksheets and information about the market which will be sent to you by our administrational team once you have confirmed your booking. Market Place believe in making a contribution to the educational development of our future generations and are committed to making learning more fun, memorable and enjoyable for all.

For the first time this year we are delighted to be introducing a video competition for classes to get involved in. We want classes to create a short video to demonstrate what it is you love about the Christmas Markets, the more creative, the better!

The winning class will win a trip to the Market for the whole class. You will be picked up by bus and taken to the Christmas Market where you will be given a tour followed by a private lunch and the chance to meet Santa within his beautiful grotto! The grotto experience will be available at the Belfast and Newcastle markets.

Each video should be no longer than 2 minutes long and submitted to emma@marketplaceeurope.co.uk by no later than Thursday 22nd October 2015. The winner will be announced by the end of October.

Due to the popularity of our tours booking in advance (by 13th November 2015) is required. Groups are responsible for organising transportation to and from the market. Each tour last approximately 1 hour, 30 mins. 12-15 children make an ideal group however we are happy to accommodate school groups up to twenty pupils and if notified in advance. Tours run daily Monday – Friday from 12 noon-4pm.

Pitch for a Free Market Stall at Harborough Market

Harborough District Council is offering new food businesses the chance to test their business ideas for free at their award winning Harborough Indoor Market. Harborough Market, which is operated by Market Place, is participating in the high profile, Love Your Local Market Campaign led by the National Association of British Market Authorities. They are offering a 6-week rent free period in a bid to attract new traders to the hall and to promote the market as the ideal location for start-up businesses. Sairah Butt, Market Place and Harborough Market Manager said, “Many well-known brands started life on a market stall. Getting started in business is not easy, especially in today’s economic climate, but markets can be a great way to launch a business with relatively low risk, whether it be in a fixed unit or a one day pop up stall.” Budding food business owners who want to bring a new product to the market are invited to send in a written pitch of no less than 500 words, detailing why they...
