Food for Thought at Harborough Market

Harborough Market is offering shoppers the chance to win 50 x £5 market shopping vouchers via their local press to spend during British Food Fortnight. 

The national campaign which runs from 19^th September to 4^th October aims to make the public aware of the diverse and delicious range of food that is available in Britain. 

Market Place and Harborough Market Manager, Sairah Butt, said, “British Food Fortnight is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the fresh, high quality and tasty produce available at Harborough Market. We have everything from Red Leicester and Chive home-made sausages, local lamb and beef, to Somerset Brie, Lancashire cheese, local pork pies, fruit and veg and traditional jams and chutneys on sale.”

Traders at the indoor market on Northampton Road are keen to get involved in the fortnight, with all food hall businesses running special offers aimed at showcasing some of the best of their produce and giving shoppers the chance to try things at a great price. Shoppers are urged to look out for the promotional offers in the food hall.

“We also have a fantastic farmers market on the 1^st October on the Square that is jam packed with wonderful British produce that we hope shoppers come and support,” Sairah added.

Harborough Market is also working with the Market Harborough Congregational Church during the fortnight to collect donations for the Jubilee Foodbank.

“It is also important to remember, particularly at this time of year as Harvest Festival approaches, that not everyone has the same access to food and that there are people in need in the region,” said Sairah. “Market Place will get the collection started with a donation, but we are hoping the community can chip in with long life items such as UHT milk, UHT juice, tinned fruits and coffee etc. Just bringing along one item can make all the difference to someone.”

Food donations can be dropped off at the stall opposite to the Fishmongers in the food hall.
