English Street to play host to returning Global Market bursting with flavour

An international market will be held in Carlisle city centre, outside the Old Town Hall, between Wednesday, 24 and Monday 29 August as part of this year’s Carlisle Pageant programme. Market Place will be returning to Carlisle with a huge selection of traders from across the globe. Shoppers will be spoilt for choice with a great variety of tasty treats and unique crafts and gifts from all over the world!

Foodies will be delighted to know the Greek Grill House is returning with their tasty Greek gyros and moussaka, Gloria’s Noodles will be in Carlisle with a range of flavoursome Thai noodles and Meats of the World will be serving up something unique with burgers made from Ostrich, Kangaroo, Wold Boar and Crocodile!

Leave room for desert though as Gilchrist’s will be bringing a huge array of delicious homemade fudge in an array of different flavours and Minot Markets will be bringing their delicious French crepes with a huge array of toppings including fruit and of course chocolate!

It’s not all about food though as Market Place will be bringing a fantastic range of crafts and gifts from a number of countries such as a selection of beautiful South American knitwear and musical instruments. G and G Global Gift Collection will have an assortment of Fair Trade wooden carved figurines all the way from Bali as Kiec Gardens will offer real character with their handmade flower pot men.

Market Place Markets Manager, Matthew Hartwell is looking forward to returning to Carlisle:

Wednesday to Saturday 09:00 to 17.30
Sunday 10:00 to 17:00
Bank Holiday Monday 10:00 to 17:00



The International Market forms part of the Carlisle Pageant programme. As part of this, an ancient Proclamation will be recited at the Market Cross on Saturday, 27 August at 10am. The Proclamation is a declaration of Carlisle City Council’s rights to hold an annual Fair in August, originally granted to the citizens of Carlisle in 1352 by Edward III.

A procession including The Mayor of Carlisle, Cllr Colin Stothard, Sword and Mace Bearers and other Civic Dignitaries will make its way from St. Cuthbert’s Church to the Market Cross in the city centre.

Harborough District Council is offering new food businesses the chance to test their business ideas for free at their award winning Harborough Indoor Market. Harborough Market, which is operated by Market Place, is participating in the high profile, Love Your Local Market Campaign led by the National Association of British Market Authorities. They are offering a 6-week rent free period in a bid to attract new traders to the hall and to promote the market as the ideal location for start-up businesses.
