Market Place to arrive in Wigan for annual tasty International Food Festival

Market Place will be testing your taste buds this spring as we bring real authentic continental flavour to Wigan this March as the International Food Festival kicks off! Visitors will be able to explore the essence of a number of countries as our traders will be travelling from all corners of the globe to arrive in Standishgate!

Standishgate will be alive with a fantastic family friendly atmosphere as our colourful 5-day festival kicks off. There will be a selection of smooth, tangy rich and creamy cheeses, sourced from across the globe as Indian Delights will be bringing the spicy flavours of India to Wigan with a variety of onion bhaji’s, samosas, wraps and meats… see how hot you can go!

If you still want more International flavour, why not visit Meats of the World? There will be a great variety of exotic meats to choose from including Ostrich, Impala, Crocodile, Wild Boar, all offering unique flavour to your burger! There is also a refreshing salad bar to add even more texture and flavour to your inimitable lunch. All meats are ethically sourced by the business owners and they even offer packaging so you can cook a kangaroo at home!

Market Place Operations Manager, Chris Hulley has said:
“This will be the 6th time we return to Wigan and is one of the first events of our calendar, a great way to start our year! We have a fantastic selection of Continental traders who will be bringing true foreign flavour to Wigan and visitors are sure to enjoy putting their limits to the test!”

To celebrate World Book Day on the 3rd March, our friendly Market traders will be dressing up as some of their favourite book characters. We would love for our visitors to join in by putting your best costume forward whether it be from the wizarding world, donning a red cape or even a pair of specs and a stripy jumper!

Councillor David Molyneux, Wigan Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said:

“We hope residents from across the borough come down to Wigan’s International Food Festival and enjoy the great food that is on offer. The festival is a wonderful annual addition to the town centre and compliments the fantastic range of shops, markets and independent shops that we have in Wigan.”

Our friendly traders look forward to welcoming visitors who are certain to experience a fun family day out with a difference.

The International Food Festival will be in Wigan from:
Tuesday 1st March – Saturday 5th March 2016
Open every day: 09:00 to 17:30
